Choosing a Handmade Engagement Ring in Sydney

An engagement ring is the one piece of jewellery most people hope to wear for the rest of their lives. So it makes sense that more couples in Sydney are choosing a ring made by hand, by someone they've met, for them alone.

I'm Francisca, an architect turned jeweller. From my studio in Bronte I design and make bespoke engagement rings and wedding bands in gold, with diamonds and gemstones. Here's what to know if you're thinking about a handmade ring.

2. I design. I sketch ideas and suggest metals and stones that suit your story.
3. I make your ring. Your ring is crafted by hand in my Bronte studio.
4. You propose. Your ring arrives beautifully boxed and ready for the moment.

Choosing your metal and stone

Gold is the classic choice for engagement rings: 9ct is durable and warm, while 18ct is richer in colour. Diamonds are timeless, but coloured gemstones such as aquamarine, topaz and citrine make a ring even more personal.

A recent piece: the yellow diamond ring

This one-of-a-kind ring sets a 1.53ct yellow cushion-cut lab-grown diamond in a sculptural 9ct yellow gold band, with 14 tiny diamonds scattered around it like grains of sand. It was carved by hand in wax and cast in gold in my Bronte studio. See the yellow diamond ring.
